Rainstorm Kills CPC Lawyer In Niger

A MINNA, Niger State-based legal practitioner and Counsel to the state chapter of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Joseph Kolo, was killed in a tragic manner on Thursday evening after a tree fell on top of his car during heavy rainstorm which lasted for about one and half hours.
The Guardian gathered that the deceased, a 40-year-old man, was on his way back from a journey but had to park under a tree due to the heavy down pour and decided to call his wife to notify her that though he has arrived, he will be home after the rain subsides.
It was however learnt that shortly after making the call to his wife, the tree under which he parked, fell and crushed his car, leading to his instant death.
The body of the deceased had since been deposited at the mortuary section of the General Hospital, Minna.
Kolo, whose untimely death has thrown his family into mourning, is survived by his wife and children.
In a related development, the rainstorm was also said to have wrecked havoc along new market road where it was reported that a house and some shops located along the road were badly damaged.
An eye-witness, Hajia Halima Bawa said following the rainstorm another tree got uprooted and fell on top of one residential house. Part of the tree also blocked the road thereby resulting in traffic jam.
The death of Kolo has brought the death toll in the state since the raining season heralded by rainstorm and flood, to about seven people.
